My Favorite Poem by My Favorite Poet

THE PEDIGREE of honey
Does not concern the bee;
A clover, any time, to him
Is aristocracy.

Emily Dickinson (1830–1886)
From Complete Poems, 1924

I love this poem--and this poet. A few years back (when I was in grad school), I got to visit her home and grave site. Do you know that people leave little gifts on her headstone? Like an altar.

And how about that epitaph?
Born Dec 10 1830
Called Back May 15 1886

Of course, if it were made now, the "Called Back" bit would be in quotation marks. . .
