GO HILLARY!

However you or I or the neighbors feel about her as a person, as a politician or as the wife of a politician, this is huge: a woman has won the New Hampshire primary. On the heels of a black man winning the Iowa primary!

Like many of you, I have been waiting my whole life to see a woman become the President of the United States. And it’s possible now. It’s not impossible. It’s possible. It is no longer just a far-off dream.

And you know what? Right now, I don’t want to think about whether she’s electable; about whether she’s the right woman at the wrong time, or the wrong woman at the right time.

Right now, I don’t want to dissect her appearance, her cleavage, her tears, or her cookie-baking ability.

Right now, I'm not worried about any of it.

Because right now, this woman voter, this child of the sixties, this girl who never dreamed of becoming president of anything besides The Arnot Park Neighborhood She-Woman Boy Haters Club is just beaming.

Claire, I couldn't agree more. Both Hillary's and Obama's wins are great signs for our country. It's time for a female president -- past time, in fact -- whoever it may be. I think this will happen before a black man gets elected, although I take no joy in saying that. Obama is my candidate, but I think Hillary will get the nomination.

Lol, that sounds like my nine y.o's kinda club.
It is huge...you guys are finally catching up to us kiwis, the first country to give women the vote AND who's last two Prime Ministers have been women....well we think the current PM is a woman, but no guarantees! xxxx

While she is not my first choice (she's my second), the historical significance is not lost on me. My daughter is a passionate and waivering supporter of HC, and, as a woman and a mom, the joy I feel in watching her excitement and enthusiasm is only deepened by the fact that it REALLY COULD HAPPEN. We really could have a female president. It's no longer a pipe dream. And that, my friend, gives me goose bumps.

GREAT post.

Thanks carymc, hay, mary alice and Mrs. G, for commenting!

BTW how many of you know who the PM of New Zealand is? I had to look her up. It's just because you kiwis don't cause any trouble!

And isn't Obama dreamy when he's speaking? How effin' refreshing!!! I swear I want to genuflect or cross myself or something Catholic like that. Inspiring.

We try not to cause trouble, but don't get us started on nuclear power or whaling! xxxx

Like others have said:

Politics aside, I feel absolutely energized by this race because A WOMAN and AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN MAN are running neck and neck with a pack of middle-aged, white men trying to keep up. Seriously? Pinch me, already.

I dared to dream this, but wasn't sure it would happen so soon.

I am a very happy little feminist. I have a feeling of dread that "They will never let it happen." But it does look like it just might happen. It does look likely that next year we will be awaiting the inauguration of either an african american or a woman! Yay us!

Totally agree. Do you remember when Geraldine Ferraro was the only hope in site? Have you noticed how similar their hairstyle is (wow - was that a totally stereotypical female comment or what?). I'm really smarter than this comment.

I had almost forgotten about Geraldine. She gave me a wee bit of hope way back then. And the hairstyle observation (and your subsequent self-chastising) cracked me up! It's the "sensible female politician" do.
